Technology Systems

The goals of St. Sabina School are to incorporate technology into the school environment for the purpose of fostering lifelong learning and to increase student achievement through technology integration. Further, the school will encourage the use of technology as a tool to share knowledge, to incorporate real world applications, and communicate within and beyond the school community. We will provide ongoing training and support for teachers to use technology effectively in the classroom. Students and staff will accept the responsibilities associated with living in the technologically oriented Information Age.

Based on Michigan Technology Standards, students will:

  • Learn basic operations and skills
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the operation of technology systems
  • Be proficient in the use of technology
  • Understand social, ethical, and human issues and how they relate to technology
  • Practice use of technology systems, information, and software
  • Use technology tools to enhance learning, productivity, and creativity
  • Create models, prepare publications, and produce other creative works
  • Use technology to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and audiences
  • Use media and formats to communicate information and ideas to audiences
  • Locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources
  • Process data and report results
  • Use technology resources for solving real world problems and making informed decisions
  • Develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, and productivity

Continuous monitoring throughout the year is done by the staff and administration to evaluate the technology curriculum to ensure that technology is being utilized in a way that best enhances teaching and learning. The present technology courses and computer lab will be reviewed based on the technology curriculum as well as the course curriculum. Each teacher has been given grade level curriculum. They will meet to determine how best to integrate technology into their curriculum.

St. Sabina will keep up to date with state and national standards, and use these standards when addressing technology proficiency of teachers and staff. The school has at least one computer and printer in every classroom. The computer lab has 26 computers with secure and filtered Internet access with networked printing services. Internet access is also available within the media center. Wireless Internet is available in some of our classrooms. The school has copiers, faxes, and scanners available for use. All classrooms have an overhead projector, DVD players, and a LCD video projector is available to the staff.

Additional hardware, software, network infrastructure, telecommunications, and other services will be updated and purchased as necessary and when new technologies become available.
